You Can Steal These Innovations For Your Next Meeting

By David McMillin

In January, more than 4,000 meeting professionals came together in Boston for a meeting that certainly didn’t feel like any regular meeting. There were unconventional seating arrangements. There was a general session storyteller. There were new technologies, code hackers, alternative room sets and more at PCMA’s Convening Leaders.

“Every Convening Leaders is different, but the thinking behind our approach to designing each experience remains the same year after year,” Deborah Sexton, President and CEO, PCMA, says. “We want every minute to be a teaching and a learning moment. We know that many of our attendees can’t afford to take dramatic risks with their audience, so our program introduces them to new opportunities to shake up the face-to-face landscape.”

Now, with Convening Leaders 2014 in the rearview, the PCMA Meetings Team worked to understand which of those risks worked and which experimental elements of the program need some refining. Was the Learning Lounge 2.0 too big? Did integrating two new classroom technologies pay off? Were attendees happy with the networking lunch layout? All those answers are available for free in the Convening Leaders Innovation Guide. Click here to log into your PCMA account and download the complete report with outcomes, lessons learned, complete floor plans and more.

“The Innovation Guide is our way of making sure that our attendees get even more from their investment in Convening Leaders,” Sexton says. “We encourage meeting professionals to review the guide and use their favorite pieces to inspire new changes to their upcoming programs.”

“We’re already using the results to help continue testing new ideas next year in Chicago at Convening Leaders 2015,” Sexton adds.
